Hardback shades are made using a stiff backing, usually laminate, which then provides most of the construction for the entire lampshade and is generally used to create precisely shaped, angular lampshades. Straight Empire, Empire, and Drum shaped shades are generally hardback shades.
Unlike hardback lampshades, soft-lined and sewn fabric shades can be molded into more unusual and curved shapes. Softback lamp shades or soft-lined shades are created by stretching an outer fabric over a metal frame. Soft-backed lampshades often feature plenty of surface detailing.
The shade’s height should be between 60 and 80 percent of a lamp’s height if it is on a table lamp and between 30 and 50 percent of the lamp’s height if it’s on a floor lamp. So, if the height of the lamp is 20 inches, the height of the shade should be between 12 inches and 16 inches. And the width of your shade should be at least twice as wide as the lamp at its widest point.
Choosing a shape is relatively easy and is a matter of personal preference. Shades that are popular worldwide are Straight Empire, Empire, and Drum shades. However, to make it very simple; there is another simple rule as well with no math and it is incredibly easy to follow- If you like it, shade it.

Our lampshades come in various materials including marble and parchment paper, however the key materials are cotton, silk, block printed cotton, jute and velvet.

A clean white dry cloth works well for a light dusting. These shades will last many years with ordinary care however we will ensure to keep adding for you to keep buying!

We have designed our lampshades to work with a British (B22) or European (E27) bulb holder. We also provide a reducer ring that allows shades to sit comfortably on a B22 holder. If it is E27, simply push out the reducer.
